Tools for Equitable Reading Instruction of Text-Based Comprehension (TERI: TBC)
is a classroom observation tool that provides insight into evidence-based practices for supporting text-based comprehension in Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade classrooms.
Development and Perspective
A team of researchers at the University of Virginia, led by Dr. Julie Cohen, developed the Tools for Equitable Reading Instruction. The Reading Instruction Construct Map below details the concepts and definitions that undergird the TERI rubrics.
Using the TERI
The TERI can be used to understand instructional quality for research, program evaluation, and coaching. The TERIs can also be used to support self-reflection or team-based professional learning efforts. It is not designed for use in formal teacher evaluation.
